Carlos Vigil
Seventeen year old Carlos dedicated most of his teenage years to being an anti bullying advocate. It was a subject close to his heart and one he could relate too all too well, because he had been a victim of bullying since he was eight years old.
When he was a small boy he was bullied about his weight and his lazy eye, then it was his acne and finally, his sexuality. Carlos, it seems, spent most of his young life being tormented by those who felt it was perfectly acceptable to ridicule someone who was different to themselves.
He was tireless in his campaign work and never missed an opportunity to help someone in need. He was a compassionate young man with a drive to help and protect others who were suffering similarly to himself.
Unfortunately, he gave so much of himself to others that he had little strength left for himself. The years of torment and ridicule slowly but surely wore away at this gentle young man until finally, he could take no more. The bullies had defeated him. Life, it seems, had defeated him.
Not everyone who commits suicide leaves a note or any kind of explanation as to why they wanted to end their life. With Carlos, there was no doubt. His suicide note was very public, posted in fact, on Twitter.

"I'm sorry to those who I have offended over the years. I'm blind to see that I, as a human being, suck. I'm an individual who is doing an injustice to the world and it's time for me to leave. Please don't ever feel sorry for me, or cry - because I had an opportunity at life and that opportunity is over. I'm sorry that I wasn't able to love someone or have someone love me. I guess it's best though, because now I leave no pain onto anyone. The kids in school are right, I'm a loser, a freak and a fag and in no way is that acceptable for people to deal with. I'm sorry for not being a person that would make someone proud".
I'm free now xoxo

Carlos' Father spotted the note on Twitter and rushed home where he found his son already unconscious. Carlos was rushed to hospital but his family made the decision to switch off his life support machine when it became clear that recovery was not going to happen.
